Update July 24

As we prepare for the new school year, we want to update you on the start of the year, planned for August 6th. As you have seen in the news, the governor has ordered schools to remain closed if they are located in a county on the state’s watchlist. Unfortunately, Point Quest Central Valley and the new Point Quest Depot Park fall within counties on the list. We continue to monitor El Dorado County as it is not on the list as of the writing of this letter.

That being said, Point Quest plans to begin the 2020-2021 school year with Distance Learning. We are eager to welcome our students and staff back to our campuses; however, we can only do so when it is safe for all parties. We have been busy this summer getting the campuses ready for when we are able to hold school in-person. Our campuses have been deep cleaned and modified to adhere to social distancing as much as possible. We are actively working on keeping groups of students isolated from other groups in order to decrease cross contamination. Point Quest is monitoring and will follow the guidelines for reopening schools distributed by the state Department of Public Health, CDC, CDE and the individual counties our schools reside in. As more information is available on when it is safe to open our doors, we will pass that along as quickly as possible.

This next week, expect to get a call and/or email from your child’s teacher, with a daily schedule and instructions on how to access daily “live” instruction. The general framework Point Quest teachers will follow will be a live morning classroom meeting and a live whole-class wrap up in the afternoon. Each classroom teacher will schedule these group events and then work with individuals to set up one-on-one instruction. Classroom assistants will be working alongside the teacher to help with assignments as well as maintaining the connections among the class. Related Service personnel (speech, OT, mental health) will also be in contact with each student’s home to schedule the services outlined in your child’s IEP.

We appreciate our families and recognize the difficulty in starting the year with distance learning. Please, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or suggestions on how we can support you at home.

We hope that you have been able to enjoy the summer as much as possible.
